About the founder of this site…

Hi, I’m Melanie Anne Phillips, founder of this, the world’s first transgender support web site way back in 1994.  Since then, we’ve had about two million visitors.

But even back before that, in the late 1980’s, I started the first online transgender newsletter, founded the first interactive transgender chat room on old America Online, and published the first online transition diary beginning in 1989 on the first day of my hormone therapy.  (You can read it here.)

I just like being first.  It’s exciting.  Still, this wasn’t my only area of interest.  During transition and through reassignment surgery I was working in the film industry as an editor, writer, producer and Director in film, video and on television.

About 1991, just before surgery, I began work on my largest (and arguably greatest) project - a new theory of story that later became and remains the worlds best-selling story structure software.  Click here to learn more about that.

This theory of story described the psychology of narrative and also how narratives guides our behavior.  From it, I learned why I was transgendered and how to make the best of it.  I suppose I see sharing this means of self-understanding with others as my mission in life, if there is such a thing.

While I eventually drifted away from day to day involvement in the TG community while I pursued these other more generally applicable endeavors, this web site has remained a premiere destination for those starting the transition journey or just hoping to understand themselves better.

So have a look around, see if there is something helpful for you here.  And, if you’d like to check in and see what I’ve been up to lately, you can find me on my personal web site, on Facebook, and on Google+

Best wishes for you to achieve all you want to do and be.

And remember, dreams are the stuff reality is made of.
